Wikisource:Subdomain coordination

From Wikisource
(Redirected from WS:COORD)

WS:COORD

This table is a summary of the different policies and technical solutions used in the Wikisource subdomains. Its goal is to facilitate comparisons and to increase users' awareness of the different options. Certain cells are colored to highlight important local policies, especially those in red for more restrictive ones.

Configurations about local file uploads are available at m:NFC#Wikisource.

Footnotes

[edit]
  1. noc: InitialiseSettings.php variable "$wgImportSources"
  2. Uploading importers have more privileges than transwiki importers. Administrators are automatically transwiki importers, not uploading importers.
  3. All works published before 1929 worldwide are in the public domain in the USA even if still copyright-restricted in their home countries. Exceptions may apply in the 9th Circuit for some non-American works published since 1 July 1909 per http://copyright.cornell.edu/resources/publicdomain.cfm#Footnote_12 by Peter Hirtle. This column indicates whether such works are allowed on a Wikisource subdomain when considering wmf:Resolution:Licensing_policy with respect to the laws of any countries where any project content is predominantly accessed. If not allowed, ws.org hosts these works until transferring them to the subdomains when appropriate, while footnotes of this column also show the general copyright lengths of restrictive countries and areas.
  4. Certain non-US works, usually still copyrighted in 1996 in source countries, may be in the public domain there now but still be copyrighted in the USA. See also m:Legal/Wikimedia Server Location and Free Knowledge for possible limited tolerance.
  5. Czech law is life + 70 years. This has not been discussed, so we use the unclear but very strong practice on the cs.wiki in the moment.
  6. copyright remains until 70 years after author's death, see here
  7. Finnish law is life + 70 years. Kansainvälinen (The Internationale in Finnish) dated in 1905, whose last surviving author died in 1964, was deleted; suggesting the de facto policy is to prohibit such works.
  8. Limited exceptions apply.
  9. life + 70 years
  10. Japanese law is life + 50 years. Locally deleting インターナショナル (The Internationale in Japanese) dated in 1922 whose author died in 1978 suggests the de facto policy. Note that the jawikisource has template that is about this situation, but for now it's only used by an Author page and a Portal page.
  11. Per this Meta-Wiki talk page, South Korea has a pma term of 70 years, while in North Korea their term is 50 years, it's currently assumed that texts that are PD in North Korea but not in South are de facto allowed.
  12. 12.0 12.1 12.2 12.3 12.4 no policy
  13. Norwegian law is life + 70 years. The question hasn't been discussed yet. So far following Norwegian law.
  14. Polish law is life + 70 years
  15. per Russia's law (The policy); however, pre-1918 works are accepted as PD-RusEmpire.
  16. Swedish & Finnish law provide life + 70 years
  17. E.g.th:Boar's Head Carol
  18. Vietnamese law provides life + 50 years.
  19. Typing "Translation:", "翻譯:" (traditional Chinese) and "翻译:" (simplified Chinese) will work. See also phab:T66127.
  20. Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Malaysia, and Taiwan all copyright for life + 50 years. Works in the public domain in these places but not Singapore (life + 70 years) are in collapsible pages so Singaporeans will see the copyright warning before opening the texts.
  21. Following discussions about zh:內務部長黃叔沆敬告國民同胞書, to continue avoiding copyright paranoia and to protect new comers, the community decided to negatively allow such texts as of 3 April 2018, until any official DMCA takedowns to Wikimedia Foundation staffs. In such cases, they probably will email James Alexander or other staffs, give temporary sysop access to delete as office actions. Wikilivres no longer properly functioning further makes Chinese Wikisource distrusts it.
