EXPLANATORY NOTE

Republic Act 8976 advocates the fortification of processed food products to attain the essential level of nutrients as required by Department of Health through BFAD. This law was enacted to encourage food manufacturer to fortify processed foods or food products with essential nutrients and authorizes the use of the DOH seal of acceptance after these products passed set of defined criteria.

NOW THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Eleanor V. Viray; duly seconded by Councilors Jesus G. Cardinez, Melchor J. Cardinez, Sr. and Prince Paul C. Piso, it was

RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved, to approve the following Ordinance, to wit .

ORDINANCE NO. 3

SERIES 2008

AN ORDINANCE PROMOTING THE USE OF FORTIFIED FOODS IN ASINGAN, PANGASINAN

Be it ordained by the Sangguniang Bayan in session duly assembled that

Section I. Title. This Ordinance shall be known as the "FORTIFIED FOODS ORDINANCE OF 2008".

Section 2. Scope and Coverage. The ordinance shall apply to all retailers, traders, restaurant and food service establishments owners in the Municipality of Asingan, Pangasinan.

Section 3. Definition of Terms.

1. Food Fortification — the addition of nutrients of processed food at levels above the natural state.

2. Fortified staples — a principal raw commodity manufactured in a locality added with nutrients having a level above normal state.

3. Regulatory requirements — the provision of ail applicable laws, regulations, executive orders and other enactment related to food quality and safety, purity, nutritional composition and other aspect of regulation.
